REINHOLD HAART, 2014 RIESLING SPÄTLESE, GOLDTRÖPFCHEN (2015 VDP AUCTION) |
The 2014 Goldtröpfchen Spätlese #14 (Versteigerung) is a selection from the bottom of the cru that delivers very small grapes and berries, and normally gives great Auslese Rieslings; but in 2014, Johannes considered the result as too lean and auctioned the wine as Spätlese. The wine opens with a very clear and aromatic, yet elegant, coolish and precise nose that displays flinty-flavored tropical aromas such as passion fruit, mango and mirabelle plum. On the palate, this is a beautifully elegant and refined Spätlese of great elegance. The wine is provided with a round and lush fruit, and a rather smooth acidity that gives a lush but piquant finish.

Reinhold Haart - VDP Mosel, Germany
The Haart family's viticultural tradition has been documented since 1337. The Haarts are probably Piesport's oldest wine-growing family, as well as one of the oldest private wine estates in the entire Mosel region. Today's Weingut Reinhold Haart stems from these traditional, family beginnings. At present, the VDP estate (member of the Association of German Präikat Wine Estates, or VDP) numbers among the best in the Mosel region. Karl-Theo Haart has managed the estate since 1971 and has stamped its structure and wine style ever since. His wife Edith and son Johannes are also active members of this family team.
The portfolio specializes in a broad range of distinctive wines with a natural, fruity sweetness and great aging potential. Thanks to cool fermentation with natural yeasts, the wines are extraordinarily fresh even many years after bottling.
