REINHOLD HAART, 2015 RIESLING AUSLESE GOLDKAPSEL, PIESPORTER GOLDTRÖPFCHEN <AUCTION WINE>
The Goldtröpfchen vineyard is a south facing slope of loamy grey slate soil above the village of Piesport. Even in hot and dry vintages water supply is sufficient due to the woods above the vineyards. Yields are kept very low (around 50hl/ha) to achieve a maximum of flavor during the long ripening period. The grapes were picked in late October to early November and selected strictly for highest ripeness with as little Botrytis as possible.

Opulent yet delicate bouquet of ripe peach, tropical fruits and red berries, mixed with the fresh slate aroma typical for Mosel-Riesling. Complex fruit on the palate with blackcurrant, red berries and spices. The mineral acidity keeps the balance of fruit and sweetness.

Served at 10°C this sweet wine will make a great aperitif on its own or a delicate partner for foie gras, cheeses and not too sweet desserts. After about 10-15 years of cellaring, aged Riesling is a delicious match to all kinds of food.

Score/Award

96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
Made from highly ripe grapes but no botrytis, the 2015 Piesporter Goldtröpfchen Riesling Auslese is very clear, fine and precise on the nose, with brilliant yet concentrated grapefruit and nectarine aromas. On the palate, this is highly precise, beautifully concentrated, finessed and elegant Auslese. It has lush fruit (peaches, nectarines), piquant acidity and lingering salinity. This is a picture-book Auslese of great finesse and terroir expression, probably one of the finest you can get and would want to drink from the 2015 vintage. (SR - 4/2017)

93 points Wine Spectator
Creamy and rich, with apple cobbler, peach tart and dried apricot flavors that are well-spiced. Offers a long and complex finish, supported by lilting acidity. Drink now through 2040. (KM, Web-2016)

Jancis Robinson
Tank sample. Just 10% botrytized and the rest just very ripe. Honey and flowers on the nose. Juicy and delightful. Perfect Mittel Mosel balance. Some tension and lots of sweetness. 17.5/20 points (5/2016)

Producer

Reinhold Haart - VDP Mosel, Germany

The Haart family's viticultural tradition has been documented since 1337. The Haarts are probably Piesport's oldest wine-growing family, as well as one of the oldest private wine estates in the entire Mosel region. Today's Weingut Reinhold Haart stems from these traditional, family beginnings. At present, the VDP estate (member of the Association of German Präikat Wine Estates, or VDP) numbers among the best in the Mosel region. Karl-Theo Haart has managed the estate since 1971 and has stamped its structure and wine style ever since. His wife Edith and son Johannes are also active members of this family team.

The portfolio specializes in a broad range of distinctive wines with a natural, fruity sweetness and great aging potential. Thanks to cool fermentation with natural yeasts, the wines are extraordinarily fresh even many years after bottling.
